JY  Hi Andrea.  Welcome to Tru Rock Revival.  This is going to be 15 questions and your answers here won't be edited.  So, let's get this party started.  First-off, congratulations on the new single, "Drown."  Cool song.  We'll make sure to give the video some screen-time in our "New Rock Video" section here in Tru Rock.   

 

AV:  Thank you.

 

JY:  A Crime Called.  That's an interesting name.   What brought you to that?

 

AV:  I was looking for something original, particular. The idea came to me one day in front of the computer, a name that I immediately searched on google. I saw that there was no band with that name and I loved it right away and decided that was the right name.  I had no other names before A CRIME CALLED ...

 

 

JY:  Who are the players? 

 

AV:  The band is made up of me (Andrea), voice, writer and mind of the band. The others are: Mattia (drums) who has been with me for almost 6 years; Biagio (guitar), excellent musician and composer; Nicole (bass, the youngest of the band, arrived 6 months ago.

 

 

JY:  How did all of you meet?  Any interesting stories here?

 

AV:  The community of musicians in my area was very small, you personally met every musician.  Forming a band was less difficult than you might think.

 

 

JY:  How would you classify your music?  (rock, hard rock, metal, post-grunge, southern rock, etc.)

 

AV:  The music of A Crime Called… is rock with strong distortions, melody, and harmonic solutions typical of modern music, all mixed with electronic sounds accompanied by the use of sampler and synthesizer.  Alternative Rock with Grunge and Nu Metal echoes.

 

 

JY:  Try saying that again in one breath.  What do you think makes your band stand out from others?

 

AV:  The sound of my band has a lot of nuances. When we play live we manage to have the same energy from the beginning to the end of the set. We know how to involve people visually and sonically.

 

 

JY:  Over the past few decades, Rock music has been the “red headed step-child,”, rarely even mentioned, do you feel that Rock is starting to climb the ladder again?

 

AV:  Music, like many other things, is cyclical. If you remember, by the end of the 1980s the distorted sound of the barge had disappeared from people's records and ears; then came grunge, which changed everything. This historical moment reminds me a lot of what happened just before the nineties. I hope that rock can return to being the protagonist.

 

 

JY:  Who are some of your musical influences?

 

AV:  Grunge music, Nu Metal, 70’s Rock.

JY:  Any artists in particular?

 

AV:  The Beatles, The Police, ELVIS!!!!

 

 

JY:  Heall yeass! Great innovators. How do you write your songs?  Is this a team effort or basically all on you?

 

AV:  I usually write songs at night. I transformed a small room in my house into a small studio and, fortunately, I can immediately record the ideas which I then transform into songs. I usually introduce myself to the other band members with the finished songs, ready to be played for hours!

 

 

JY:  Speaking of collaborative, if you could get together with any band or musician to record a song together, who would that be?

 

AV:  I'd like to write a song with / for STING. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest modern writers. If I were to write a song for a rock metal band, I would do it for Slipknot.

 

 

JY:  Two very different and distinct artists and sounds.  What about going out on tour?  What bands would you like to tour with?

 

AV:  Slipknot, Bring Me the Horizon, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach etc.

 

 

JY:  Very cool. What is your most memorable show, good or bad? 

​

AV:  The show I liked the most is the one in Moscow with Our Last Night @GlavClub.  It was fantastic evening in front of 4000 people crazy for our music.   It wasn't the first time we played in Russia but that concert was the first in front of 4000 people in that country.  While we were playing, people were shouting and clapping the entire time.  They also chanted to us in the stadium, and hearing all this is unbelievable emotion.  During a very strong song, they even made a mosh pit in a club area!  Unforgettable evening.

 

 

JY:  What would be your dream show?

 

AV:  I dream to play at a big summer festival. One of those where you find yourself playing in front of tens of thousands of people.

 

 

JY:  What has been your craziest fan interaction?

​

AV:  After a live performance in Russia, a group of people gave me a guitar and asked me to sing songs by TOTO CUTUGNO, a squalid Italian singer-songwriter. I sang and played them ALL immediately, and the Russians no longer wanted me to get on the bus!

 

 

JY:  Cool story! Wow! What’s on the table for the rest of the year, COVID permitting?

 

AV:  I hope that we can return to play soon.  I would like to promote the new album with a series of concerts in Europe, Eastern Europe and the United States.

 

 

JY:  Is there anyone you’d like to give a shout out to or thank you to?

AV:  I would like to thank all of the friends and people who have supported me and my band always and through 2021. I would like to share with them, as soon as possible, moments of joy and concerts and shows ahead.
